Our Services

Prof Kauta is primarily a fellowship-trained specialist shoulder and elbow surgeon. He has also acquired super specialised skills in knee surgery for sports injuries and degenerative pathologies.

The Shoulder

Most shoulder injuries whether due to an acute trauma or a wear and tear process as well as degenerative conditions such as arthritis are amenable to a course of conservative management. Surgery is indicated only when these conservative measures have failed.

All options for an individualized management approach will be discussed with you. Once a decision is made for surgery, your operation will either be a key hole procedure (arthroscopy) or an open approach, depending on what you need. Soft tissue repairs are done arthroscopically while joint replacements are done via open surgery.

The Knee

This is a large weight bearing joint, as such, surgery is indicated for most
traumatic soft tissue and bony injuries such as ligaments, menisci and fractures. This is to start early rehabilitation and early return to function.
Cruciate ligaments (ACL and PCL) are repaired through arthroscopic techniques. Collateral ligaments (MCL & LC, PLC) are treated through an open approach.

Degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis of the knee, will be initially treated conservatively. Once conservative management has failed, a knee replacement is indicated. Prof Kauta has experience in both traditional free-hand knee replacement and robotic knee replacement.

The Elbow

Unlike the shoulder, most surgeries around the elbow are done via an open approach whether its soft tissue repairs or joint replacements.
Conservative measures are always the first line of treatment where possible and surgery is a last resort option – more often than not.

Fractures

Prof Kauta has many years of experience fixing broken bones and replacing broken joints. Where your broken bone involves the hip or the shoulder joint, and you are at an appropriate age for a joint replacement surgery, this option may be best suited for certain fracture patterns.
Prof Kauta will take you through all the options available for the management of your broken bones and you will feel empowered to make the right decision for you.
